Greatbatch Medical is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager whose primary responsibility will be leading efforts, projects and teams in order to foster a safe and environmentally friendly workplace at multiple locations.



Essential Job Functions

Establishes, implements and continuously improves EHS policies, procedures and training to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state safety and environmental regulations, to include ensuring necessary records and reports are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines.

Identifies hazardous workplace conditions, driving incident investigations, and coordinating activities to have corrective actions implemented.

Trains new and existing associates on company policies, procedures, and regulations.

Represents facilities on EHS matters. Meets an coordinates with federal, state and local regulatory agencies, attorneys or local emergency responders as required.

Responding to day-to-day associate concerns.

Develops and implements compliance, continuous improvement and proactive safety and the environmental programs.

Coordinates the removal of hazardous materials and waste.

Performs internal audits and inspections of facility and operations.

Provides leadership of on-site Safety and Environmental Teams.

Assists with ergonomic programs and improvements.

Qualifications:

B.S. degree in Engineering or other EHS focus.

5 to 7 years related experience with 2 years in managerial capacity.

Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.

First Aid, CPR, AED, RCRA and DOT certification and experience with emergency teams

Dependable, detail oriented and organized problem solver.

Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Ability to lead, motivate, and influence others.

Outstanding written and oral communications skills.

Ability to speak in public, including providing training and presentations.

Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks by required deadlines.

Role Purpose –

This position supports all HSE activities for the Seeds NAFTA Region with a focus on leadership and the application of practical HSE skills, knowledge and experience to enable the Seeds business to grow sustainably.


Accountabilities –

• Develop, implement and maintain HSE programs and policies that enable the Business to 1) meet or exceed applicable HSE laws and regulations; 2) identify and effectively manage HSE risks and opportunities; and 3) comply with Syngenta HSE policy and standards.
• Proactively partner with the Business to identify and implement appropriate, practical and sustainable HSE solutions to existing challenges.
• Perform HSE audits of sites to assess compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations as well as Syngenta HSE policy and standards.
• Manage an active and diverse portfolio of HSE business projects e.g., health risk assessments, waste disposal, air permitting, good HSE farming practices, safe driving etc.
• Analyze and interpret HSE data for trends and prepare periodic reports for senior Line Management and various government agencies.
• Develop lean and sustainable HSE communication mechanisms, e.g., HSE website.
• Lead Incident Investigations and perform Root Cause Analysis as needed. Prepare effective communication documents for senior management, government agencies as well as appropriately communicating “shared learning” across the Business.
• Perform HSE Emergency Response Actions on behalf of Syngenta as necessary.
• Represent Syngenta in interactions with HSE government agencies regarding compliance matters, including enforcement actions.
• Track, analyze and communicate HSE legislative and regulatory developments regarding business risks and opportunities.

Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities –

Critical knowledge:

• BA/BS with equivalent work experience is required, MA/MS degree in a HSE or related field desirable

Position Description

The Health and Safety Specialist has basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, and Workers Compensation programs that comply with federal, state and local EHS and Workers Compensation (WC) statues and regulations as well as Company policies, strategies, initiatives and goals. - Provides support for primary EHS and work comp claims job functions such as job safety analysis/risk assessment, EHS and workers compensation training, workplace incident analysis, EHS inspections, data collection and record keeping.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Safety, or Public Health.
Training in core Health, Safety, Work Comp disciplines.
Minimum 4 years similar experience, at least 2 years of Worker's Comp case management experience.
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience interacting with employees from Assembler to VP level.
