Northwest Chapter Announces 2018 ASSE Scholarships

The Northwest Chapter awarded four students with $4000 in scholarships. Minghong Jiang from the University of Minnesota. Shanna Kuehn from the University of Minnesota. MaryAnn Feliciano from the University of Wisconsin – Stout, and Nicholas Massa from the University of Minnesota – Duluth. The students presented themselves very well and the Northwest Chapter board wishes them the best of luck with their future Safety and Environmental Health careers.

 Minghong Jiang – Northwest Chapter Scholarship Recipient – $1400 

Ms. Jiang will graduate with a Master of Science – Industrial Hygiene in the Fall of 2019 from the University of Minnesota, holds a bachelor of science degree in Nutrition with emphasis on Dietetics from the University of Minnesota.  Ms. Jiang has worked as a Dietitian and Food Service Director/Manager for the University of Minnesota Dining Service and Ebenezer Care Center.  She has also worked as an Advanced Nutrition Aide for Fairview Hospital at the University of Minnesota.  Ms. Jiang has participated in multiple research projects at the University of Minnesota with the Environmental Health, Food Science, and Family Medicine departments.  She has volunteered her time with the Women Infants Children Clinic (WIC), Salvation Army, and Second Harvest Heartland over the past few years in Minneapolis.

 

 Shanna Kuehn – Northwest Chapter Scholarship Recipient – $1000     

Ms. Kuehn will graduate with a Master of Public Health – Industrial Hygiene and Human Factors and Ergonomics from the University of Minnesota in the Summer of 2018, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy/Religious Studies from St. Cloud State University. She has worked at Nesting Time, in-home childcare, as an owner/operator. Ms. Kuehn has held positions as a Field Service Engineer, IT Tech/Desktop Support Analyst for Cargill and the City of Minneapolis.  She has participated in an Ergonomic Sit/Stand project with multiple organizations throughout the Twin Cities area. Ms. Kuehn is the current President of the local AIHA Student Section – University of Minnesota and is in the process of starting an ASSE student section at the University of Minnesota.

 

MaryAnn Feliciano – Northwest Chapter Scholarship Recipient – $800

Ms. Feliciano will graduate with a Master of Science – Risk Control from the University of Wisconsin – Stout in May of 2018.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Cum Laude, from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  She has worked as an Academic Peer Advisor/Resident Assistant at the Southern Illinois University.  She held a position as an Outreach and Engagement Specialist at AmeriCorps/Housing Forwards as well as a Health and Safety Intern for Essentra Specialty Tapes.  Ms. Feliciano also holds a FEMA Certificate of Achievement.

 

 

Nicholas Massa – Northwest Chapter Scholarship Recipient – $800

Mr. Massa will graduate with a Master of Environmental Health and Safety from the University of Minnesota – Duluth in December of 2018.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Forestry from SUNY College – Syracuse, NY.  Mr. Massa has worked as a Fisheries Technician for New York State Department of Environmental Conversation and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife/Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission.  He also has held a position as a River Steward for Brookfield Renewable Energy and an Associate Scientist for Parsons Corporation in New York.  Mr. Massa is currently working with the UMD MEHS faculty as a graduate research assistant.
